Business value

The improvements in reporting and analytics for the manufacturing area can help your business track new KPIs and scenarios in Power BI.

Feature details

We've significantly improved reporting and analytics for manufacturing in Power BI, where we have added new reports:

  • Work Center Statistics highlights the work center scrap percent, and lists work center output and work center scrap.
  • Machine Center Statistics highlights the machine center scrap percent, and lists machine center output and machine center scrap.
  • Prod Order List highlights total actual cost with variances to expected and standard costs, quantities and document numbers, source numbers, and production order routing number.
  • Prod Order Routing Gantt visualizes routing line timelines as operation durations.
  • Prod Order WIP visualizes WIP value over time and lists production order level details such as beginning balance value, consumption, capacity, output, and ending balance value.
  • Production Overview focuses on current or unfinished production orders.

We also updated some existing reports:

  • Current Utilization is marked for deprecation.
  • Historical Utilization is marked for deprecation.
  • Work Center Load has visual layout updates. We added a Work Center Load Details matrix that breaks down work center statistics by work center, source number, and production order.
  • Allocated Hours is now called Allocated Time, and has some visual layout updates:
    • Allocated time is now visualized by work center, source number, work center type, and production order status.
    • Allocated Time Details matrix now displays allocated time by source number and production order.
  • Expected Capacity Need has visual layout updates:
    • Expected capacity need is now visualized by work center, machine center, and source number.
    • Expected Capacity Need Variance matrix now displays Production Order Expected Capacity need vs. Production Order Actual Capacity Need, and the deviation as a percent.
  • Finished Production Order Breakdown highlights the total actual cost with variances to expected and standard cost. Visual layout updates:
    • Actual costs breakdown by source number is visualized as a stacked bar chart with cost components as segments.
    • Finished production order breakdown details planned and finished quantities as well as actual cost components by production order.
  • Consumption Variance highlights material cost with variances to expected and standard material costs. Visual layout updates:
    • Expected and standard material cost deviation percentage by source number are visualized as bar charts.
    • Consumption Variance Details matrix lists actual, expected, and standard material costs with variances by production order.
  • Capacity Variance highlights capacity cost with variances to expected and standard capacity cost. Visual layout updates:
    • Expected capacity cost deviation percentage by source number is visualized as a bar chart.
    • Capacity Variance Details matrix lists the standard and expected capacity cost variances as well as the production order capacity need variance.
  • Average Production Times has visual layout updates:
    • Average production time per finished quantity is visualized by work center and by source number.
    • Average Production Time Details matrix lists actual time used, finished quantity, and average production time per unit by source number and production order.
  • Released Production Orders highlights total actual cost with variances to expected and standard costs. Visual layout updates:
    • Number of production orders by source number is visualized as a bar chart.
    • Completion Ratio pie chart visualizes the relationship between finished quantity and remaining quantity.
    • Released Production Order Details lists key details about released production orders such as starting, ending and due dates, planned vs. finished quantities and document number, source number, and production order routing number.
  • Production Scrap highlights Production Order Scrap % and lists production order finished and scrap quantities. Visual layout updates:
    • Scrap quantity over time visualized as a line chart displays scrap quantity trends across time.
    • Work and machine center scrap KPIs are listed in a central card.
    • Scrap percentage by production order is visualized as a bar chart.
    • Scrap quantity by scrap code is visualized as a bar chart.
    • Scrap quantity vs. expected scrap quantity by source number is visualized as a comparative bar chart.

We are releasing the source code for the Manufacturing Power BI app in the 26.2 update.
