One of my next posts will consider Walt Whitman as a potential patron poet of the software development profession. At this point, before reviewing his considerable body of work, I think Walt has a number of things going for him:
- He was the people's poet. He identified with the regular Joe and spent considerable time ruminating about the life of regular folk.
- He had a firm grasp on sensual imagery and language. Walt was a sensual poet.
- His work was a high-water mark for generations of poets.
- He spent time as a nurse in the American Civil War. What better way to understand misery and fear?
Any thoughts?
