Add or remove sample data

You can use sample data in your Power Platform deployment to help you learn customer engagement apps such as Dynamics 365 Sales, Dynamics 365 Customer Service, Dynamics 365 Field Service, Dynamics 365 Marketing, and Dynamics 365 Project Service Automation. Sample data helps you understand how data is organized in the system. You can install sample data on your system for training purposes or remove it based on your requirements.

Important

You can use sample data to learn and understand various features of the customer engagement apps. However, to avoid unwanted results, don't associate it with any production data.

In the Power Platform admin center

  1. Ensure that you have the System Administrator security role or equivalent permissions.

    Check your security role

    • Follow the steps in View your user profile.

    • Don’t have the correct permissions? Contact your system administrator.

  2. Sign in to the Power Platform admin center.

  3. In the navigation pane, select Manage.

  4. In the Manage pane, select Environments, and then choose an environment for which you want to install sample data.

  5. Select Settings on the top menu bar.

  6. In the search box under Settings, enter Sample data. The Sample data screens loads in a separate tab and provides information on whether your environment has sample data installed.

  7. Select an action at the bottom of the screen:

    • Remove Sample Data, and then select Close.
    • Install Sample Data, and then select Close.
    • To close the screen without making changes, just select Close.

In a Unified Interface app

Follow these steps for Unified Interface apps.

  1. Make sure you have the System Administrator security role or equivalent permissions.

    Check your security role

    • Follow the steps in View your user profile.

    • Don’t have the correct permissions? Contact your system administrator.

  2. Sign in to Power Apps.

  3. Select your environment from the top-right corner, and select Settings (Settings.) > Advanced Settings > Settings > Data Management > Sample Data.

  4. A message appears that tells you whether the sample data is installed.

  5. Select an action at the bottom of the screen:

    • Remove Sample Data, and then select Close.
    • Install Sample Data, and then select Close.
    • To close the screen without making changes, just select Close.
