Best Practices for Edge Server Security
Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 and Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 will reach end of support on January 9, 2018. To stay supported, you will need to upgrade. For more information, see Resources to help you upgrade your Office 2007 servers and clients.
Create a new subnet just for the Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Edge Servers.
Secure the routing rules for access to that subnet (disable broadcast, multicast, and traffic to other perimeter network subnets).
Run the A/V Edge service as an Office Communications Server administrator, who has minimal privileges, not as a more privileged workstation or network administrator.
Read and use the information in Protecting the Edge Server Against DoS and Password Brute-Force Attacks in Office Communications Server at https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=215739.
